Nigerian Families Across Borders

For families whose lives, assets, and aspirations span more than one country.

If you grew up in Lagos, built a career in London, and now hold property in both — you are not a Nigerian client and not a UK client. You are both, simultaneously. The financial complexity this creates is real. Two tax systems. Two sets of inheritance law. Assets in currencies that move in opposite directions. Children who may inherit under laws different from those that governed how the wealth was built. WealthHat was built for this. We understand both sides, not as a global bank that has added a Nigeria desk, and not as a Lagos firm that handles offshore accounts on request. We are the firm that holds the full picture.

Scenario 1

The London-based Nigerian family

You have UK citizenship or indefinite leave to remain. You hold a UK pension, UK property, and business interests in Nigeria. Your children were born in the UK. When you die, Nigerian succession law and UK succession law may conflict. Your Nigerian assets may not automatically transfer in the way your UK will specifies. We coordinate the estate planning across both jurisdictions so there is no gap.

Scenario 2

The returnee

You built a career abroad and returned to Nigeria permanently or semi-permanently. You have foreign assets — a US brokerage account, a pension you have not touched, property you have not sold. You want to consolidate your financial picture and make decisions about whether to keep those assets offshore, repatriate them, or restructure how they are held.

Scenario 3

Life in the Gulf

You are based in Dubai or Abu Dhabi. Nigeria is home and you will return eventually. You hold naira assets, Gulf property, and an increasingly complex cross-border financial picture. Estate planning under UAE law, Nigerian law, and potentially English law (if you hold UK assets) requires coordination that neither a UAE financial advisor nor a Lagos firm alone can provide.

What we do here

Establish the producing asset base you hold outside the business, and the freedom number it needs to reach.

Build a personal portfolio deliberately diversified away from the sector, currency, and economy the business already exposes you to.

Document the shareholding as it actually stands, which is frequently not as the family believes, and work with your lawyers on the succession and shareholder arrangements that follow from it.

Audit key-person and life cover against the exposure the company and the family actually carry.
